The state of VNs on Steam

#75 Steam opened these floodgates, and it obviously hasn’t stopped the majority of users from using their service. I doubt the complaints of a minority will really change their mind.
It’s also a very different time, and Steam makes it much easier to see what games are decent than stores did back in the day. Overall, it’s a bit sensational to say that this is video game crash 2.0.

video game crash 2.0
awful games existed even before this. sturgeon's law still apply here, except that its now 97% of crap instead of the assumed 90%. it hurts, it sucks, but they are still protected by 1st/2nd amendment.

@76 I've never said it's another crash. I said: Read up upon it, so you understand why Valve doesn't just accept everything and removed the stuff they did. Times changed, but games with really questionable backgrounds, be it for legal reasons or not, and generally problematic quality should probably not stay. It's in their own interest. There is no legal responsibility for them to do such a thing until someone starts to sue, and I doubt that happened here. But it sure isn't good for your reputation. Thus you kick the biggest problems.Last modified on 2018-09-22 at 13:06

Less than 25% in 72 hours isn't a good sign. While it's not impossible, it's definitely unlikely. While I have seen kickstarters succeed even in this position, it's usually though help from really large whales or a famous youtuber stumbling upon the demo; neither which you can make happen.
Edit: Damn, wrong thread. Ah well.Last modified on 2018-09-23 at 03:01

#77 Removing bad quality games isn't something that is protected by the constitution. Steam is a private service owned by a private company, and they aren't obliged by the government to keep asset flips

welp, just how could one possibly retort to #81's posts...
maybe we can start with something like "Oh yeah, anything English is American and ofc it is obvious, with America one means 'Murica aka the USA which could not possibly pick a more arrogant name for their country"
though I am not going to point out how they do not make any sense at all, too dangerous~
Needless to say, "American" VNs are at fault for only rarely being on the level of high quality Japanese VNs (more often than not being worse than even doujin kusoge that are also made in a flash, in Flash) and I do not mean those many popular VNs which are actually terrible but people like to suspend their disbelief through all circles of hell to feel the drama which could not be more forced.
Fun Fact: Russia also makes quite some many "American" VNs, tehe~

Jokes aside, I'm just waiting for this to blow up. Once extreme feminists and their ilk notice that Steam is selling porn games where you create a harem out of obedient woman by fucking them to submission with your magnificent dick, the reactions are articles are going to be fucking hilarious.

#87 I'm still waiting for Cyclet on Steam, so I can send an email to Kotaku or Polygon and cause Rapelay 2.0: The Rapening.
Edit: I don't mean to sound too much like a Steamfag, but isn't $13 a little high? Sure, the Japanese version is around 20,000 yen, and nukige tend to sell for a little more than other VNs per hour to begin with, but Quof translated this game over two years ago and I assume that most of the core audience has already played it.
On the same note, why translate this game in particular? It's pretty old, Miel releases monthly so it's not like your options are limited, it's already translated, and it doesn't even seem particularly acclaimed as far as Miel titles go. Seems like a pretty bad business decision to me.Last modified on 2018-10-02 at 01:51

@88 Quof mentioned on twitter a while back that Cherry Kiss were using his version of the translation (except they were gonna brush it up a bit due it it being one of his older translations), so no it's not a retranslation. It's more or less a quick cash grab.Last modified on 2018-10-02 at 12:30

Y'all are blowing this out of proportion.
1) Feminists tend not to be the ones who make the most noise over pornographic stuff appearing in games. Fundamentalist christian groups do.
2) This isn't a whole lot more extreme than Melty's Quest which nobody is making a fuss out of.
3) At least in America, we're all trained to look the other way when it comes to porn. Every so often, a moral panic happens spurred by fundamentalists, but they've been getting weaker by the year, and these days nobody cares. Even the Hot Coffee thing over a decade ago ended up fizzling out with barely any consequences. Rapelay only affected the industry as much as it did because Japanese eroge publishers overreacted to the scandal. I'm reasonably confident that if a rapelay 2.0 happens, it'll have to be with something much worse than Harem Guild.

in the past 5-6 years, 99% of complaints about video games contents (and pop culture in general) are coming from far left ideologues.

@88 Discounting the fact that it has been translated before, that price is fine. MG would probably have charged $25 for that type of game.
@92 Probably this. It's the fact that both far right and far left tend to be authoritarian and how right now, the far left have more power than the far right. It's the far left governments in Britain and Australia that have placed crazy restrictions on porn after all.
@93 The influence of Islam isn't too relevant in American politics (and therefore Steam), at least not yet. While the far left defends Islam, it's hard to claim that they are proposing sharia law in America. Western Europe though...

Western Europe though...don't worry about us, we'll convert naturally* sooner or later, London already fell (no comment on what might happen to the minority when it gets small enough but being Erdogan'd seems plausible)
*if punishing Apostasy with death&disgrace and not allowing non-Muslim husbands at all+non-Muslim wives to bear anything but a Muslim child is natural.
On-topic thou' (as in, they are really irrelevant here), it's obvious that anyone who calls themselves left or right if not even radical/far then they can not be taken seriously and must not be. Even the ancient Greeks went on and on on how balance, moderation and pretty much all that is "center" is important. They did not have some silly parties that just claim to either work for the nation or the people but at least for their own obvious interest groups.
Here (in the western world) if you vote you actually lose for everyone is trying to achieve supposed balance by tipping the scale by destroying the other or overloading it. It is pretty much ironic how it is not like Germany has any real center or right parties besides those... which grew quickly to 20% in some latest survey, GG, let it indeed repeat after exactly 100 years but this time... nvm.
